Kindergarten and 1st grade cover colonial America and 2nd grade follows with an appreciation of State history. In the 3rd grade, students embark on a six-year study of the development of Western civilization. Classical Christian techniques are used to provide young students with timelines of early world history in preparation for their understanding of the establishment of Western Civilization. Biblical history, Middle history, and European history are studied including the Reformation, the Renaissance, and the Enlightenment which are presented in relation to the organizing ideas and prerequisites for the originating concepts represented in the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution. From our earliest grades to our final history course, students learn about how the ideas, people, events, dates, and sacrifices are a part of our American heritage of freedom. An emphasis is placed on the Christian origins of concepts such as unalienable rights, freedom itself, and the restraints that are placed on governmental power. Questions such as: where do our rights come from? Where do governments get their authority? Who first talked about government of, by, and for the people? All these questions have answers based in history and more specifically based in the history of Western Civilization and the history of freedom in America.
